AZL Indians INF Dorssys Paulino named Minor League Player of the Week

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced Arizona League Indians INF DORSSYS PAULINO has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week, August 13-19. In addition to this honor, today he was promoted to Short-Season Class-A Mahoning Valley of the New York-Penn League.

Paulino, 17, hit .560 (14-25) for the week with 3 doubles, a triple, 3 HR and 9 RBI while posting a 1.713 OPS (.593 on-base pct, 1.120 slugging pct.).  On August 13 against the Diamondbacks rookie club, Paulino tied a season high by going 4-for-5 with 2 RS, a 2B and 3 RBI and followed that with a 3-hit game the next night with 2 HR and a season-high 5 RBI. 

For the 2012 season, he is batting .355 (61-172) with 42 runs scored, 14 doubles, 6 triples, 6 home runs and 30 RBI while posting a 1.015 OPS (.404 on-base pct., .610 slugging pct.). He is 2nd in the Arizona League in batting (.355), 2nd in hits (61), 3rd in slugging pct. (.610), 3rd in total bases (105), T3rd in runs (42), 4th in extra-base hits (26), T4th in triples (6) and 5th in doubles (14).

The Bani, Dominican Republic native was signed as a Non-Drafted Free Agent by the Indians on July 2, 2011 as a 16 year old out of La Academia. Dorssys (DOOR-seas) doesn’t turn 18 years old until November 21st.  He was ranked the 7th best prospect in the Indians system by Baseball Prospectus entering the 2012 season.
