D-backs make roster moves

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have returned infielder Willie Bloomquist and right-handed pitchers Josh Collmenter and Takashi Saito from their rehabilitation assignments and reinstated them from the 15-day disabled list, recalled catcher Konrad Schmidt from Triple-A Reno, selected the contract of outfielder Tyler Graham from Reno, activated infielder Cody Ransom and transferred right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Bloomquist, 34, was on the 15-day disabled list since Aug. 11 (retro to Aug. 9) with a strained lower back and made 4 rehab appearances with Rookie AZL D-backs, hitting .333 (3-for-9) with a double, a triple and 4 RBI. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder is batting .300 (97-for-323) with 21 doubles, 5 triples and 22 RBI in 79 games with the D-backs this season. He is hitting .358 (19-for-53) with 9 RBI over his last 13 games.

Collmenter, 26, was placed on the 15-day disabled on Aug. 10 with ulcers and made 3 rehab appearances with the AZL D-backs. He threw 8.0 scoreless frames with 5 hits and 11 strikeouts. The 6-foot-2, 234-pounder is 3-3 with a 4.24 ERA (35 ER in 74.1 IP) in 22 games (9 starts) with Arizona in 2012. He is 0-1 with a 1.61 ERA (5 ER in 28.0 IP) in 13 relief appearances this season, and 3-1 with a 2.41 ERA (15 ER in 56.0 IP) in 18 games (5 starts) since May 1.

Saito, 42, has appeared in 10 games with the D-backs this season, going 0-0 with a 6.14 ERA (5 ER in 7.1 IP). He was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring on Aug. 14. Saito made his D-backs debut on July 21 vs. Astros, becoming the first-ever player of Japanese descent to pitch for Arizona.

Schmidt, 28, hit .277 (92-for-332) with 24 doubles, 7 home runs and 47 RBI in 93 games with the Aces. He played in 1 game with the D-backs this season on May 26 vs. Brewers, going 0-for-4 with a RBI. Schmidt will wear No. 33.

Graham, 28, hit .115 (7-for-61) with 2 triples, a homer and 6 RBI in 26 games for Reno, .273 (6-for-22) in 8 games for the AZL D-backs and .263 (5-for-19) in 5 games for Triple-A Fresno (Giants).  He signed by Arizona as a Minor League free agent on May 14 and was on the disabled list from May 14-July 30 with a left shoulder impingement with humeral fracture. Graham will wear No. 19 in his first Major League stint.

Ransom, 36, was claimed off the waiver from the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. He will wear No. 1.

Hudson, 25, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 27 (retroactive to June 25) with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right eblow. He underwent successful Tommy John surgery on July 9 in Los Angeles by Dr. Lewis Yocum.

The D-backs 40-man roster is now at 40.
