Astros recall four players from Triple-A
Corporan, Fick, Keuchel and Martinez to join club tomorrow in Pittsburgh
HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros have recalled catcher Carlos Corporan, right-handed pitcher Chuckie Fick, left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel and outfielder J.D. Martinez from Triple A Oklahoma City. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Corporan, 28, rejoins the Astros for his second stint with the Major League club this season. In 18 games with Houston from 7/15-8/12, he hit .275 (14x51) with three home runs and nine RBI, while starting 15 games behind the dish. The switch-hitting catcher has hit .286 (59x206) with 15 doubles, six home runs and 31 RBI in 68 games for OKC this season.
Fick, 27, will also be in his second stint with the Astros, having appeared in nine games from 7/27-8/25, posting a 4.85 ERA (7ER/13IP). He has spent the majority of his season at the Triple A level in the Astros and Cardinals minor league system, combining to post a 2-2 record with three saves in 47 relief appearances. Fick was acquired by Houston after being claimed off waivers from St. Louis on 7/27.
Keuchel, 24, pitched for Triple A OKC today and tossed 3.0 perfect innings in an abbreviated start. This will be his third stint with the Astros this season, having made 12 Major League starts overall. In his 16 starts at the Triple A level this year, Keuchel went 6-4 with a 3.90 ERA (40ER/92.1IP).
Martinez, 25, is the Astros RBI leader, having collected 54, to go along with 11 home runs in 102 games for Houston this season. After beginning the season as the Astros everyday left fielder, Martinez was optioned to Triple A on 8/9 and would go on to play in 23 games with the RedHawks. In parts of the last two seasons in the Majors with Houston, Martinez has combined to hit 17 homers with 89 RBI in 155 games.
ASTROS OUTRIGHT HAMBURGER TO TRIPLE A
Earlier today, the Astros announced that right-handed pitcher Mark Hamburger had cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple A OKC. The move cleared a 40-man roster spot for right-handed pitcher Edgar Gonzalez, who started today’s ballgame. Hamburger was acquired by Houston earlier this season on 7/21 off of waivers from San Diego.
Following today’s roster moves, the Astros 40-man roster is currently full.
