Blue Jays add five for tonight's game

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have returned catcher J.P. ARENCIBIA and 3B BRETT LAWRIE from their medical rehabilitation assignments and have reinstated them both from the disabled list and have also recalled RHP DAVID CARPENTER, RHP JOEL CARRENO and C/INF YAN GOMES.   All five players will be in uniform tonight in Boston.

ARENCIBIA, 26, appeared in two playoff games for the Dunedin Blue Jays on a medical rehabilitation assignment after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand.  This season the 6-0, 205 lb. right handed hitter is batting .242 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 50 RBI in 81 games.

CARPENTER, 27, has appeared in one game with Toronto this season after being acquired from the Houston Astros.  In 31 Major League games this season, all in relief, the 6-2, 215 lb. right handed pitcher has a 0-2 record with a 7.12 ERA.  In 23 minor league games in the Pacific Coast League (AAA) split between Oklahoma City and Las Vegas,  he has a 1-1 record with a 3.08 ERA.

CARRENO, 25, is 0-2 this season with a 6.35 ERA for Toronto in seven games, two starts.  The 6-2, 220 lb. right handed pitcher has also appeared in 27 minor league games this season, split between New Hampshire of the Eastern League (AA) and Las Vegas, posting a combined 4-9 record with a 5.90 ERA in 27 games, 15 starts.

GOMES, 25, has appeared in 33 games this season for Toronto batting .165 with three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI.  In 79 games for Las Vegas the 6-2, 215lb. right handed hitter posted a .328 batting average with 29 doubles, 13 home runs and 59 RBI.

LAWRIE, 22, has appeared in three minor league games on a medical rehabilitation assignment after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain.  Last night he was 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk and a RBI in a Midwest League playoff game for the Lansing Lugnuts (A).  This season the 6-0, 215 lb. right handed hitter is batting .282 for Toronto with 20 doubles, nine home runs and 40 RBI.
