Masons of California Pitch in to Support Junior Giants Baseball

Masons4Mitts Give Kids a Hand by Giving Them a Glove

San Francisco, CA, September 17, 2012 – For the fourth consecutive year, the Masons of California are stepping up to the plate for the Junior Giants.   During a pre-game ceremony before tonight’s game, the Masons of California will present a check to the Giants Community Fund for $74,540 as part of its Masons4Mitts program, which will provide 3,727 gloves for at-risk youth who participate in Junior Giants baseball.  This year’s contribution brings their four year donation total to more than $190,000.

Knowing that more than 40 percent of the kids in Junior Giants don’t have a glove of their own, the Masons of California teamed up with the Giants Community Fund to start Masons4Mitts, a fundraising partnership designed to provide baseball mitts to as many Junior Giants as possible.

"Masons Night at the Ballpark" is an opportunity to recognize the Masons of California’s overwhelming support and commitment to Bay Area youth.  A home plate ceremony will take place prior to the game, during which San Francisco Supervisor Jane Kim will present a check on behalf of the Masons to Giants Hall of Famer Orlando Cepeda who will accept for the Giants Community Fund.

Using baseball as a forum to encourage underserved kids to live healthy and productive lives, the Junior Giants program currently includes 80 leagues in 175 cities around Northern California with over 20,000 participants and more than 2,500 volunteer coaches.
