Mariners name Tom Allison director of pro scouting

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that Tom Allison has joined the organization as the Director of Professional Scouting.

Allison comes to the Mariners with over 18 years of scouting experience. He most recently served as the Midwest Regional Crosschecker in the Amateur Scouting Department of the Boston Red Sox in 2011-12. Prior to that he spent four years as Director of Scouting for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2007-10), where he oversaw several top draft classes, including the 2009 draft that was tabbed by Baseball America and ESPN.com as the No. 1 draft in MLB.

“We are excited about the addition of Tom Allison to our organization as Director of Pro Scouting,” said Zduriencik. “He brings a level of experience with his background as a crosschecker, scouting director, minor league player and as a front office executive. He is a well-rounded individual and his contributions will be an asset to the Seattle Mariners.”

His extensive scouting background also includes seven seasons as a Scouting Crosschecker for the Milwaukee Brewers (2000-06), and 10 years in the New York Mets organization as an Area Scouting Supervisor (1996-99) and Assistant Scouting Director (1995-96). Allison played as an infielder and coached in the Mets minor league system from 1990-94.

Allison, 45, is a graduate of Chapman University in Orange, Calif., where he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies. He also played collegiately at Loyola Marymount University, and was a member of the Lions squad that advanced to the 1986 College World Series. A Northwest native, Allison grew up in the Vancouver (WA) area. He currently resides with his family in Phoenix, Ariz.
