San Francisco Giants announce plans for upcoming San Francisco Giants world championship trophy tour presented by Bank of America
The San Francisco Giants announced today that they will take their 2012 world champions trophy on public tour beginning in early January of 2013.
This will be the second public trophy tour held in the past three years and will feature both the 2012 and 2010 trophies. The focus of the San Francisco World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America is to share Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s trophy, crafted by Tiffany & Co., with Giants fans in Junior Giants communities throughout northern California.
Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 20,000 boys and girls in 80 underserved communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon. It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives. Using baseball as the hook, Junior Giants provides opportunities for children to demonstrate confidence and leadership, to link with adult mentors and to develop a strong understanding of the importance of literacy and healthy living.
“It was really important to our organization to create a trophy tour which allowed us to connect with our fans and the more than 20,000 kids who participate in our Junior Giants baseball program,” said Larry Baer, Giants president and chief operating officer.
In partnership with their Junior Giants Leagues, the Giants will offer public viewing opportunities in the following cities throughout the months of January, February and March. Fans will have the chance to have their photo taken with the trophies and to support their local Junior Giants Baseball League.
The public tour will begin in Sacramento on Tuesday, January 8, with stops in Chico (benefitting both the Chico and Oroville Junior Giants Leagues), Los Molinos, Redding, Mt. Shasta, Richmond, Vallejo, Daly City, Redwood City, Antioch, Porterville, Fresno, Reedley/Sanger, San Francisco, Merced, Los Banos, Lompoc, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Salinas, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Modesto, Atwater, Willits, Lake County, Livermore, Live Oak/Santa Cruz, Stockton, San Jose (benefitting Santa Clara Junior Giants), East Palo Alto, Tracy, South San Francisco, San Bruno, San Mateo, San Rafael, Medford, Oregon and Reno, Nevada. The 2012 trophy will also make stops in New York City, returning to the team’s roots, and Scottsdale, Arizona, the club’s Spring Training home. (A complete listing of tour stops with corresponding dates is below.)
Fans can view the trophies in person at each stop during a specified, two-hour period on a first-come, first-served basis. The viewings are free to the public with a suggested donation of $2 per person to the Junior Giants League hosting the event. Bank of America will match contributions to the Junior Giants program, up to $10,000. Fans will have the opportunity to have a professional photo taken, by Giants Fan Photos, and can purchase those photos on-line and, in some cases, on site. The trophies will be transported in a 2013 Sequoia Limited courtesy of Toyota.
