Marlins announce 2013 Spring Training Invitees

Pitchers & catchers to hold first workout on Feb. 12; First full-squad workout Feb. 15

The Miami Marlins today announced that they have extended Spring Training invitations to 31 non-roster players. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Larry Beinfest.

The Marlins have signed the following 17 players to minor league free agent contracts with invitations to Spring Training: Right-handed pitchers Jonathan Albaladejo, John Maine, Doug Mathis, Chad Qualls, Kevin Slowey, Jordan Smith, Mitch Talbot and Michael Wuertz; left-handed pitcher Zach Phillips; catcher Craig Tatum; infielders Matt Downs, Nick Green, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Ed Lucas and Chris Valaika; outfielders Jordan Brown and Austin Kearns.

The following 14 organizational players were extended Spring Training invitations: Right-handed pitchers Michael Brady and Jose Fernandez; left-handed pitchers Adam Conley, Grant Dayton, Brian Flynn, Andrew Heaney and Raudel Lazo; catchers Wilfredo Gimenez, Jake Jefferies and Jacob Realmuto; infielders Danny Black and Derek Dietrich; outfielders Jake Marisnick and Christian Yelich.

For the 11th consecutive season, the Marlins' Spring Training headquarters will be based at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Fla. Pitchers and catchers will hold their first workout on Feb. 12, and the first full-squad workout will be Feb. 15.

As of today's announcement, the Marlins will have 71 players in Major League Spring Training camp.
