Jimmy Wynn To Be Tonight's Guest On Astroline

HOUSTON, TX — Former Astros outfielder and current community outreach executive Jimmy Wynn will be the guest on this week's Astroline call-in radio show, which will air its 10th broadcast of the offseason tonight. The show is open to the public and will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. from Buffalo Wild Wings (510 Gray St.) on NewsRadio 740 KTRH. Next week, Astroline will return to SportsTalk 790 KBME.

Hall of Fame broadcaster Milo Hamilton is once again serving as the host of Astroline and is joined each week by Astros Social Media Director Kelly George, who will take fan questions via Twitter at twitter.com/astros either before or during the broadcast. Astroline, which is presented by Budweiser, is being broadcast live each Thursday from 7-8 p.m. during the offseason. 

Wynn spent the first 11 seasons of his 15-year Major League career with the Houston franchise (1963-73), including the first two as a member of the Colt .45's. The two-time All-Star hit 291 home runs during his career, and ranks among the top 10 in almost every significant Astros career hitting category. Despite his small frame (5'9"), Wynn boasted enormous power and a strong throwing arm, earning him the nickname "The Toy Cannon". As a member of the Dodgers in 1974, Wynn played in the World Series and finished fifth in the National League MVP voting after hitting .271 (145x535) with 32 homers, 18 stolen bases and 108 RBI.

In his current role, Wynn is an active member of the Houston community, working closely with the Astros Community Relations Department and charities. Wynn's No. 24 was officially retired by the Astros on June 25, 2005. On June 24, 2011, the Astros and Minute Maid officially dedicated the Jimmy Wynn Training Center, a state-of-the-art baseball facility located at the Astros Urban Youth Academy in North Houston.

Hamilton, who retired from the radio booth in 2012,  began his Hall of Fame radio career as a disc jockey on the Armed Forces Radio Network during Thanksgiving week in 1945. The 2012 season was his 28th with the Astros and his 59th year broadcasting Major League Baseball. Although he retired from calling games, Hamilton will remain active with the Astros moving forward.
