Games Among Top Trending Topics Worldwide, in U.S. and Japan

As the World Baseball Classic enters its second week of play, the tournament is generating buzz around the world on social media.  Recent highlights include:

  • Shortly after Adrian Gonzalez's third-inning home run gave Mexico a 4-0 lead over USA on Friday night, five of the top ten trending topics on Twitter in the U.S. - and three of the top ten worldwide - were about the World Baseball Classic. 
  • During the closing moments of Japan's thrilling 10-inning 4-3 comeback win over Chinese Taipei on Friday, eight of the top ten trending topics in Japan were about the game and the World Baseball Classic.  Topics included "Congratulations Japan," "Nice Game" and "Ibata for MVP."

The World Baseball Classic has also made frequent appearances in recent days on the top trending lists in many other competing countries, including Mexico, Spain, Italy and the Dominican Republic.

Action continues today with Canada (0-1) taking on Mexico (1-1) at 2:30pmET, followed by Puerto Rico (1-0) vs. Venezuela (0-1) at 5:30pmET and USA (0-1) vs. Italy (2-0) at 9:00pmET.  All games will be shown on MLB Network and ESPN Deportes in the United States.  Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.worldbaseballclassic.com.
