Red Sox announce roster moves

FORT MYERS, FL -- Following this afternoon's game, the Red Sox released outfielder Ryan Sweeney, and reassigned outfielder Mitch Maier to Triple-A Pawtucket. The announcements were made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington.

Sweeney, 28, signed with Boston as a minor league free agent in January and was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training.  In 21 games for the Red Sox this spring, he batted .217 with one double and two RBI.
