Texas Rangers recall RHP Justin Grimm from Round Rock to start tonight

The Texas Rangers announced today that right-handed pitcher Justin Grimm has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock of the Pacific Coast League. Grimm will start tonight at Seattle as the Rangers open a four-game series with the Mariners.

Grimm will start in place of left-handed pitcher Matt Harrison, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 7 with an inflamed nerve in his lower back.

In addition, the Rangers today recalled right-handed pitcher Justin Miller from Double-A Frisco of the Texas League and placed him on the 60-day disabled list.

Grimm defeated Omaha on April 5 in his only appearance for Round Rock this season (5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R-ER, 2 BB, 4 SO). He pitched in 4 "A" games/1 start for the Texas this spring (9.1 IP, 15 H, 10 R-ER, 6 BB, 9 SO). In 2012, he was 9-3, 1.72 in 16 games/14 starts at Frisco and 2-3, 4.59 in 9 games/8 starts at Round Rock. The right-hander also made his major league debut with Texas, going 1-1, 9.00 in 5 games/2 starts over two stints with the club.

Harrison has lost both of his starts in 2012 with an 8.44 ERA (10.2 IP, 14 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 7 BB, 12 SO). After losing to the Los Angeles Angels on April 6, he underwent an MRI, which revealed the inflamed nerve. Harrison had an epidural injection in his lower back and did not make the roadtrip while continuing to receive treatment.

Miller was on the disabled list at Frisco while he continues his rehab from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in April 2012. He has not pitched in a game since 2011.

Texas now has 39 players on its major league roster.
