Rockies recall LHP Josh Outman, option RHP Chris Volstad

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Josh Outman and optioned right-handed pitcher Chris Volstad. Outman (#88), will be in uniform and available for tonight's Rockies vs. Diamondbacks game at Coors Field (6:40 p.m. MDT).

Outman, 28, began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs and went 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA (10.2 ip, 1 er), 4 walks and 14 strikeouts in 10.2 innings for the Sky Sox. The left-hander appeared in 27 games/7 starts for the Rockies in 2012, going 1-3 with an 8.19 ERA (40.2 ip, 37 er), 20 walks and 40 strikeouts. In 60 career Major League games/32 starts, Outman is 9-11 with a 4.69 ERA (192.0 ip, 100 er), 76 walks and 147 strikeouts with Colorado (2012) and Oakland (2008-11). Outman was acquired by Colorado along with RHP Guillermo Moscoso on January 16, 2012 for OF Set Smith.

Volstad, 26, began the season with Colorado and posted no record with an 8.53 ERA (6.1 ip, 6 er), one walk and 3 strikeouts in four games. In 128 career Major League games/123 starts, Volstad is 35-51 with a 4.90 ERA (701.2 ip, 382 er), 248 walks and 442 strikeouts with Colorado (2013), the Chicago Cubs (2012) and Florida (2008-11). The Rockies signed Volstad to a Minor League on January 20, 2013 and made the Rockies Opening Day roster out of Spring Training.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
