Mariners select RHP Jeremy Bonderman from AAA Tacoma; Place INF Justin Smoak on 15-Day Disabled List

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today the following roster moves:

  • RHP Jeremy Bonderman selected from AAA Tacoma
  • INF Justin Smoak placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 30
  • INF Vinnie Catricala designated for assignment

Bonderman (#32) is in Minneapolis and is today's scheduled starter for the Mariners game at the Twins.

Bonderman, 30, went 2-4 with a 4.52 ERA (32 ER, 63.2 IP) in 11 starts with AAA Tacoma. Bonderman was named the PCL Pitcher of the Week for April 29-May 5. Bonderman signed with Seattle as a minor league free agent on Jan. 9, 2013. He has not appeared in the Majors since Oct. 1, 2010 (with Detroit).

Smoak, 26, left the game on May 25 vs. Texas with a right oblique strain. He last appeared in a game as a pinch-hitter on May 29 at San Diego. In 46 games this season, Smoak is hitting .240 (37x154) with 7 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI.

Catricala, 24, hit .253 (44x174) with 8 doubles, 3 home runs and 21 RBI in 48 games with AA Jackson. Seattle now has 10 days to trade, release or outright the contract of Catricala to the minors.
