Padres reinstate OF Cameron Maybin from 15-day disabled list and place INF Yonder Alonso on the 15-day disabled list

The San Diego Padres today announced that they have reinstated outfielder Cameron Maybin from the 15-day disabled list and have placed infielder Yonder Alonso on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to June 1) with a right hand contusion. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Maybin, 26, missed 45 games after he was placed on the disabled list on April 17 with a right wrist impingement. The outfielder appeared in nine rehabilitation games with Triple-A Tucson in which he posted a .323 average (10-for-31) with a .447 on-base pct., .645 slugging pct., with two doubles, three home runs, four RBI and a stolen base. Before being placed on the disabled list, he appeared in each of the Padres' first 10 games of the season and hit .091 (3-for-33) with one double, one RBI and three runs scored. The Asheville, N.C. native owns a career .248 batting average with 30 home runs and 131 RBI over parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues with Detroit (2007), Florida (2008-10) and San Diego (2011-2013).

Alonso, 26, has hit for a .284 average (54-for-190) with a .335 on-base pct. and .416 slugging pct. with seven doubles, six home runs and a team-leading 29 RBI in 54 games for the Padres this season. The left-handed hitting first baseman has not appeared in a game since May 31, but had been hitting .348 (16-for-16) over his last 14 games dating back to May 17 vs. Washington. Over parts of four Major League seasons with Cincinnati (2010-11) and San Diego (2012-13), the La Habana, Cuba native owns a career .279 batting average with 20 home runs, 52 doubles and 109 RBI.
