Marlins make eight selections on Day Two of First-Year Player Draft
Draft Florida native with first pick of Day Two
MIAMI - The Miami Marlins today selected eight players in Rounds 3-10 of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, including Florida high school shortstop Ben Deluzio with their first pick of the day (No. 80 overall). The announcements were made by Vice President of Scouting Stan Meek.
Deluzio (Windermere, FL) attends The First Academy in Orlando, and was named to the Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason All-American High Honorable Mention Team. The Marlins took another high school product with their second pick of the day, selecting outfielder K.J. Woods (Ft. Mill, SC) out of Ft. Mill High School, who was a Second Team Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason All-American. With its third pick of the day, Miami selected catcher Chad Wallach from Cal State-Fullerton. Wallach, a junior, is the son of former Major Leaguer and five-time All-Star Tim Wallach.
Miami has selected 12 players through Day 2, including three pitchers (one left-hander), one catcher, six infielders and two outfielders.
On the first day of the Draft, the Marlins selected University of North Carolina All-American third baseman Colin Moran with the sixth overall pick. Moran is a finalist for the 2013 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award for the top amateur player in the country. He leads the NCAA with 86 RBI this season and is batting .348 with 13 home runs. Moran was named the 2013 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, leading the Tar Heels to the ACC championship and the No. 1 overall seed in this year's College World Series.
