Place LHP Jonathon Niese on the 15-day DL

Recall RHP Greg Burke from Las Vegas (AAA)

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 21, 2013 - The New York Mets today announced that lefthanded pitcher Jonathon Niese has been placed on the 15-Day Disabled List, with a partial tear of the left rotator cuff and righthanded pitcher Greg Burke has been recalled from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Burke will wear #46 and will be available for tonight's game.

Niese was examined today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. He left last night's game in Atlanta in the fourth inning.

Burke, 30, began the year with the Mets before he was optioned to Las Vegas (AAA) on April 18. He was recalled on May 12 and allowed three earned runs over 12.2 innings (2.13 ERA) before he was optioned to the 51s on June 15. He last pitched on June 18, throwing 1.1 innings at Tucson, allowing three runs. Burke is 1-1 with a 6.55 ERA (eight earned runs/11.0 innings) in nine games with Las Vegas.

Burke is 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA (nine earned runs/20.0 innings) in 21 games with the Mets this season. 

Niese is 3-6 with a 4.32 ERA (37 earned runs/77.0 innings) in 14 starts for New York.
