Twins option Hernandez to Triple-A, will recall Gibson on Tuesday

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced following today's game that they have optioned left-handed pitcher Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A. Hernandez made a spot start in Cleveland today for the injured Mike Pelfrey (back strain). He earned the win as he pitched 5.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits with six walks and two strikeouts.

To replace Hernandez on the 25-man roster, the Twins will recall right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Gibson will join the team in Miami and is scheduled to start for the Twins on Saturday at Target Field vs. the Kansas City Royals. In 15 starts for the Red Wings, Gibson went 7-5 with a 3.01 ERA (92.2 IP, 31 ER) with 79 strikeouts and 28 walks.

Gibson, who was originally drafted by the Twins in the first round (22nd overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player draft, will wear uniform number 44.
