D-backs reinstate Putz from 15-day disabled list, optioned Spruill to Triple-A Reno on June 28

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) have reinstated right-handed pitcher J.J. Putz from the 15-day disabled list, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers. Following last night's game, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Zeke Spruill (@zekespruill) to Triple-A Reno.

Putz, 35, suffered his right elbow strain on May 7 in the ninth inning at the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 4 rehab games with Triple-A Reno, he allowed 1 run in 4.0 innings with 2 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. In 14 games for the D-backs this season, he is 2-1 with 5 saves (9 opportunities) and a 4.26 ERA (6 ER in 12.2 IP) along with 8 walks and 17 strikeouts. He owns a 12.08 strikeouts per 9.0 innings ratio. In 131 games spanning 3 seasons with the D-backs, he is 5-8 with 82 saves and a 2.66 ERA (37 ER in 125.0 IP).

Spruill, 23, appeared in 4 games for the D-backs, his first stint in the Majors, and allowed 1 run in 4.1 innings with 4 hits, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. In 14 starts with Double-A Mobile and Reno this season, he is a combined 3-6 with a 3.12 ERA (31 ER in 89.1 IP). He combined to throw 17.0 scoreless innings over his last 2 starts, including a 7-hit shutout on June 9 vs. Colorado Springs.
