Rockies recall LHP Drew Pomeranz from Triple-A

Club Options RHP Rob Scahill to Triple-A Colorado Springs

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the 25-man roster, the Rockies optioned right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill. Pomeranz (#13) will make his 2013 season debut and start this afternoon against San Francisco (2:10 p.m. MDT).

Pomeranz, 24, began the year at Triple-A Colorado Springs where he has gone 8-1 with a 4.20 ERA (85.2 ip, 40 er) with a 2.91 K/BB ratio (96 strikeouts, 33 walks) over 15 starts. He began the year winning each of his first 6 decisions which spanned 8 starts and he carried a 3.22 ERA (44.2 ip, 16 er) with 51 strikeouts compared to 15 walks during that stretch. Pomeranz's 8 wins are the second-most in the Pacific Coast League, as were his 96 strikeouts and his SO/9.0 ip ratio (10.09). The Ole Miss product has made 26 career Major League starts and has gone 4-10 with a 5.01 ERA (115.0 ip, 64 er).

Scahill, 26, has spent three separate stints with Colorado this season appearing in 13 games while posting no record with a 4.26 ERA (19.0 ip, 9 er). Five of his last six appearances have been scoreless (7.0 ip, 7 h, 1 r). Scahill began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and has made 14 relief appearances going 3-0 with a 4.60 ERA (31.1 ip, 16 er) and one save for the Sky Sox. The Illinois native has made 19 career appearances at the Major League level without earning a decision and owns a 3.25 ERA (27.2 ip, 10 er) with 27 hits, 6 walks and 12 strikeouts.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
