Rockies place of Dexter Fowler on the 15-day DL

Club activates RHP Edgmer Escalona from the 15-day disabled list

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed outfielder Dexter Fowler on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand bone bruise (retro to June 26). In addition, to fill the open active roster spot the Rockies have activated right-handed pitcher Edgmer Escalona from the 15-day disabled list. Escalona (#61) will be available for tonight's game vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (6:40 p.m. MDT) at Coors Field.

Fowler, 27, made his third consecutive Opening Day start this year and has hit .291 (75-for-258) with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs, 26 RBI and 49 runs in 70 games this season. Fowler has led off for the Rockies in 43 games, while batting .301 (50-for-166) with 9 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs, 19 RBI and 32 runs. His on-base percentage (.411) and slugging percentage (.506) from the leadoff spot both are the second-highest among National League hitters, while his batting average is fourth. In 618 career Major League games, Fowler owns a .274 average (572-for-2091) with 115 doubles, 52 triples, 38 home runs, 194 RBI and 354 runs scored.

Escalona, 26, made his first Opening Day roster and went 1-2 with a 4.18 ERA (32.1 ip, 15 er) with 7 walks and 27 strikeouts in 21 appearances this year for the Rockies before being placed on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation. He has limited opponents to a .143 average (3-for-21) with runners in scoring position and has yet to allow an inherited runner to score (5 inherited runners) this year. In 62 career games, Escalona is 1-3 with a 3.75 ERA (86.1 ip, 36 er), 76 hits, 25 walks and 64 strikeouts.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
