Pitcher -- RHP, Nic Hanson, Lakewood… 2 starts… 0-1, 0.69 ERA (1 ER, 13.0 IP), 12 H, 2 BB, 4 R, 7 SO… Hanson earns POTW honors for the 1st time this year.
Player -- OF, Wilmer Oberto, GCL Phillies… 6 G… Batted .400 (10-25), 8 R, 2 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 18 RBI, BB… Oberto is also honored for the 1st time this season.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs -- International League North Division…51-51, T-3rd place… 1-3 for the week… Lehigh Valley had a shortened week due to the Triple-A All-Star Game taking place at Aces Field in Reno, Nevada… 3B Cody Asche and INF/OF Cesar Hernandez were selected as the lone representatives for LV… Asche went 0-1 while Cesar did not appear as he was transferred to Reading (AA) for extended work in the OF... The IL defeated the Pacific Coast League 4-3 in Reno… Hernandez hit .407 (11-27) between both REA and LV this week… At LV he batted .353 (6-17), 2B, 2 SB… Hernandez has hit safely in 17 of 19 contests and is currently 8th in the IL in batting (.308) and is T-3rd in stolen bases (29)… LHP Greg Smith was honored as the IL Player of the Week as he earned the win in his only start going 8.0 innings, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER… In 6 starts for LV this season Smith has given up just 1 ER in 34.1 innings of work… He is 4-0, 0.26 ERA (1 ER, 34.1 IP) as a starter… Smith originally went to Spring Training with Toronto before being released at the end of camp… He was signed on 5/6 and assigned to REA. After making 3 starts for the Fightins he was promoted to LV on 5/21… Smith didn't allow a run as a starter until his 5th GS (25.2 IP), which also snapped 14.2 IP scoreless streak…RHP Phillippe Aumont again showed what he is capable of when he limits free passes (2 G, 3.0 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 7 SO)… Aumont has an active 4.0 IP scoreless streak over his last 3 appearances (7/18-current) with 9 SO in that span (20.25 SO/9.0 IP)… LHP Raul Valdes made 1 start, going 6.0 IP, 1 ER, 5 S0… Over his last 6 starts, Valdes has a 2.20 ERA (9 ER, 36.2 IP) with 34 SO in that span… Valdes was rewarded for his solid work with a promotion to the big league club today (Savery DL'd)… RHP Ethan Martin made 1 start going 6.0 innings, 3 H, 1 ER and 6 SO while taking a tough-luck loss. His 10 W's are T-2nd in the IL (best: Martin, DUR: 12)… LHP Jay Johnson earned a promotion from REA and threw a scoreless inning in his first triple-A appearance… RHP Zach Miner and LHP Mauricio Robles each made 2 scoreless appearances.
Reading Fightin Phils -- Eastern League Eastern Division…42-57, 6th place… 4-3 for the week… Reading finished over .500 in a week for the first time since 6/17-23 when the club also went 4-3… 1B Jim Murphy batted .333 (8-24), 2 2B, 4 HR, 7 RBI… Murphy currently sits at 19 HR on the year which ranks 2nd in the Phillies Minor League system (best: Franco-21)… Murphy's .524 SLG ranks 3rd in the EL while his .894 OPS ranks 5th… OF Kelly Dugan (featured in this morning's Philadelphia Daily News) batted .346 (9-26), 2 2B with his first double-A HR… 3B Maikel Franco batted .310 (9-29) while hitting .370 in 26 G since being promoted to double-A… 2B Albert Cartwright is currently riding a 7 G hitting streak (9-25, .360)… For the week Cartwright hit .320 (8-25), 2B, 3B, 2 SB… C Sebastian Valle has 4 HR in his last 4 G (2 multi-HR games) to give him 11 on the year… LHP Jesse Biddle got the win in his only start going 7.0 innings, 3 H, 1 ER, 7 SO… RHP Mike Nesseth picked up 2 SV… RHP Kyle Simon notched his 7th SV of the season… LHP Jay Johnson worked 2 scoreless innings while picking up a W before being promoted to LV… Between LV and REA Johnson has allowed only 3 ER since May 8 (0.77 ERA- 3 ER, 35.0 IP)… RHP's David Buchan and Seth Rosin each won both of their starts this week… After quite a showing in Clearwater (A), LHP Mario Hollands earned a promotion to REA after posting a 1.56 ERA in 69.1 IP.
Clearwater Threshers -- Florida State League North Division…First Half - 35-33, 4th place… Second Half - 13-14, 3rd place… 2-4 for the week… Clearwater had an uncharacteristically poor showing at the plate this week averaging just 2.83 runs per game (17 runs/6 games) while batting only .212 (41-193)… OF Aaron Altherr hit his FSL leading 28th double of the year and picked up stolen base number 17… After missing over a month of the season due to a fractured wrist that occurred on a HBP in May, OF Cameron Perkins reached on his 22nd double of the season… RHP Perci Garner took a tough loss on 7/21 as he allowed 1 unearned run in 7.0 innings of work… Of the 9 outs RHP Ken Giles recorded in his 3.0 innings of work, 7 came via strikeout (21.0 SO/9.0 IP)… Both of Giles' appearances were scoreless as he picked up his first SV… RHP Steven Inch made 2 appearances totaling 4.1 IP, H, R… Since being promoted from Lakewood, Inch has 2 W and a SV with a 0.82 ERA (1 ER, 11.0 IP) in 5 G with CLR… RHP Daniel Carela worked 3.0 scoreless innings… Carela has allowed only 2 hits and no runs since his promotion from LWD… RHP Severino Gonzalez made it back to CLR with a promotion after posting a 1.69 ERA (4 ER, 21.1 IP) in 4 starts with Lakewood.
Lakewood BlueClaws -- South Atlantic League North Division - First Half-26-41, 7th place… Second Half - 14-16, 5th place… 3-3 for the week… SS Angelo Mora batted .364 (8-22), 2 2B, HR, 2 SB… OF Larry Greene hit .350 (7-20), 2B, 4 BB… After a rough 1st half, Greene is batting .321 (36-112) in the 2nd half with 13 multi-hit games to his credit… DH Willie Carmona had 6 H including his 5th HR of the year… Since 5/21 Carmona is batting .357… 1B Art Charles connected on his 9th HR of the season… RHP Nic Hanson earned Player of the Week honors with a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings of work this week… Since coming off the DL Hanson has a 0.95 ERA (2 ER, 19.0 IP) in 3 starts… In his 8 starts this season Hanson boasts a 1.75 ERA (9 ER, 46.1 IP)… RHP Delvi Francisco (2.1 IP, H, 4 SO) appeared in every LWD win this week, picking up a SV in each… 10th round selection RHP Jon Prosinski was promoted to LWD and made his 1st start this week (5.0 IP, 3 H, ER, 4 SO)… 26th round selection RHP Chris Burgess made 2 relief appearances (W, 5.0 IP, ER, 5 SO)… RHP Geoff Broussard picked up a win in 2 scoreless appearances totaling 5.1 IP with 5 SO.
Williamsport CrossCutters -- New York Penn League Pinckney Division - 17-15, 3rd place… 2-4 for the week… The Williamsport offense was limited to 16 R in 6 G this week (2.67 runs per game) while hitting only .213 (42-197) for the week… After a tough week at the plate WIL still ranks 3rd in the division in batting… C Gabriel Lino batted .438 (7-16), 4 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI… Lino is batting .323 with a team leading 23 RBI in 28 G… OF Jiandado Tromp batted .357 (5-14), 2B, 3B and has a .300 AVG on the season… 3B Zach Green hit his team leading 5th HR and still leads the league with 15 doubles…RHP Julio Reyes made 2 starts, allowing only 1 ER in 8.2 IP (1.04 ERA) with 7 SO… 27th round selection RHP Tyler Buckley did not allow an earned run in 3 appearances totaling 5.2 IP with 5 SO out of the pen…. On the season Buckley has a 1.32 ERA (2 ER, 13.2 IP) with a .111 OPP AVG (5-45)… RHP Josh Warner made 2 relief appearances without yielding an earned run or a free pass in 5.2 innings of work… RHP Keivi Rojas made 3 scoreless appearances… 17th round selection LHP Rob Marcello picked up his 1st win as a professional 7/21 vs Lowell… 21st round selection RHP Mark Meadors picked up his 1st save as a professional 7/19 vs Hudson Valley.
Gulf Coast League Phillies -- 9-16, 4th place… 4-4 for the week… C Wilmer Oberto earned Player of the week honors as he batted .400 (10-25), 2 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 18 RBI… Oberto leads the GCL with 26 RBI in only 18 G (next: Reyes, BRA: 18)… In a 3 G stretch 7/16-18 Oberto tallied 6 hits including 4 HR while knocking in 13 runs… Of the 4 HR hit, each one was of a different variety (solo, 2-run, 3-run, GS)… Oberto is hitting .344 so far on the season… 1st round selection SS J.P. Crawford batted .381 (8-21), 2B, 3B… Crawford leads the league in batting at .391 in his first 17 games as a professional… 35th round selection, Delaware product OF Nick Ferdinand hit .500 (9-18), 2B, SB… Ferdinand is batting .317 on the year… 2B Robinson Torres batted .318 (7-22), 8 R, 3 2B… 30th round selection OF Venn Biter picked up his first hit as a professional… At the plate this week Biter went (3-7) .429 in 3 G… OF's Jose Pujols and Herlis Rodriguez each belted a home run… RHP Ranfi Casimiro made 2 starts, going 10.0 innings, ER, BB, 6 SO… In 5 starts this season Casimiro sports a 1.80 ERA (5 ER, 25.0 IP)…. RHP Alejandro Arteaga picked up the win in his only start going 5.0 innings allowing 1 ER with 3 SO… RHP Richard Bielski picked up a W and a SV in 3 relief appearances (3.2 IP, H, 0 ER, 4 SO)… Bielski has yet to surrender a run in 10.0 innings of work this season… 22nd round selection RHP Mark Leiter made 2 appearances going 4.1 innings without yielding an earned run… Leiter has a 1.86 ERA (2 ER, 9.2 IP) with 12 SO in his first 6 games as a professional… LHP Adam Morgan, on the rehab trail, made 1 start with GCL (4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) before being transferred back to LV.
