Cubs activate outfielder David DeJesus from 15-day DL; option outfielder Dave Sappelt to Triple-A Iowa

PHOENIX - The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder David DeJesus from the 15-day disabled list, and optioned outfielder Dave Sappelt to Triple-A Iowa.

DeJesus, 33, landed on the disabled list, June 15, with a right shoulder sprain suffered the previous night at the Mets. In three rehab games with Rookie League Mesa this week, DeJesus batted .364 (4-for-11) with four runs, two doubles and a walk.

DeJesus is hitting .260 (52-for-200) with 15 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 21 RBI in 59 games for the Cubs this season. The left-handed hitter batted .292 (26-for-89) in May and is 10-for-30 (.333) with runners in scoring position.

Since joining the Cubs as a free agent prior to the 2012 season, DeJesus is batting .262 (185-for-706) with 43 doubles, 10 triples, 15 home runs and 71 RBI in 207 games. Last season, he hit .263 (133-for-506) with 28 doubles, eight triples, nine home runs and 50 RBI in 148 games, his most appearances since a career-high 157 games in 2007 with Kansas City.

Sappelt, 26, is hitting .240 (18-for-75) with three doubles and four RBI in 31 games spanning two stints with Chicago this season. He is batting .269 (50-for-186) with 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 34 RBI in 52 contests with Iowa.
