Red Sox recall infielder Brock Holt

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled infielder Brock Holt from Triple-A Pawtucket. He fills the 25-man roster spot vacated by shortstop Jose Iglesias, who was traded to the Detroit Tigers yesterday as part of a three-team, seven-player deal. Holt will be available for tonight's 7:10 p.m. game at Fenway Park.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

For Holt, 25, this marks his second stint with the Red Sox this year. He hit .290 (9-for-31) with eight RBI, three runs, and one stolen base in 10 games for Boston this season, including an eight-game hit streak from July 7-14. Defensively, he played in 10 games at third base (nine starts), and also appeared in two games at second base. For his major league career, he has batted .292 (28-for-110) with two doubles, one triple, 11 RBI, and nine runs in 34 games between the Pittsburgh Pirates (2012) and Red Sox (2013). In 69 games for Pawtucket this year, he has hit .264 (63-for-239) with four doubles, one home run, and 20 RBI.
