Red Sox Foundation and Bosox Club provide summer camp scholarships to area youth

BOSTON, MA - The Red Sox Foundation and the BoSox Club, the official booster club of the Boston Red Sox, partnered for the first time this summer to provide scholarships for Boston area children to attend baseball and softball camps.
 
A total of 19 children from the Red Sox Foundation's RBI Youth Baseball and Softball Program attended the Revolution Softball Camp at Endicott College in Beverly, MA, and the RBI Academy Dustin Pedroia Summer Baseball Camp at Stonehill College in North Easton, MA.
 
Ranging in age from 10 to 15 years-old, the group of 12 boys and seven girls attended the week-long overnight camps in July to hone their baseball and softball skills, and learn about the importance of teamwork.
 
Funded by the BoSox Club, the summer camp program has been one of its longstanding traditions. This year, the partnership with the Red Sox Foundation provided the scholarships to children participating in its cornerstone program focused on athletics.
 
"We are thankful to the BoSox Club members for creating this great summer tradition that will now help deserving children from the Red Sox Foundation's RBI Youth Baseball and Softball Program," said Interim Red Sox Foundation Executive Director, Gena Borson. "The scholarships allow kids who are passionate about the game to be immersed in a week-long summer camp session to refine their skills and be with other children who have a passion for the game. For most of these youngsters, this is the first "away camp" experience that they have had. Knowing that it comes from the BoSox Club makes them feel like a true part of the Red Sox family."
 
Established in 1967, the BoSox Club was originally formed to assist the Red Sox in ticket sales and team promotion, and over the years has grown to become the dynamic organization it is today. Traditionally, the BoSox Club has raised funds both inside and outside its membership to support many worthy causes including the Red Sox Foundation, the Jimmy Fund and New England amateur baseball organizations.  
 
The Red Sox Foundation raises funds through special events, corporate sponsorships, and grants. Founded and initially funded by Red Sox Principal Owner John Henry, Chairman Tom Werner, President/CEO Larry Lucchino and their partners, the Red Sox Foundation has won numerous awards for the impact of its innovative programs. In 2010, the Foundation's Red Sox Scholars program was recognized by Major League Baseball with the first-ever "MLB Commissioner's Award for Philanthropic Excellence." In 2009, the Red Sox Foundation was honored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Sports Philanthropy Project with the Patterson Award as the nation's "Best Team Charity in Sports."
