Detroit Tigers Promote Aileen Villarreal to Director of Media Relations

The Detroit Tigers on Wednesday announced they have promoted Aileen Villarreal to director of media relations. Villarreal, who most recently served as manager of media relations, will oversee the day-to-day operation of the club's media relations department, and serve as the main point of contact for media interview requests of baseball personnel.

Villarreal is completing her third season with the Tigers, having joined the Club in 2010 as media relations coordinator.

"We are fortunate to have a person from within the Tigers' organization who can step into this position," said David Dombrowski, President, CEO and General Manager of the Tigers. "Aileen's skill set makes her an ideal choice to move the department forward."

Villarreal's professional baseball career started in 2010 with the Houston Astros working in the market development department.

Villarreal is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame where she double-majored in Sociology, and Film, TV and Theatre, and where she also minored in Latino Studies. While at Notre Dame, Aileen, during her senior year, was head personnel manager for the Notre Dame football team.

Villarreal is a native of Montebello, California (East Los Angeles).
