A's Provide Medical Updates on Parker, Gray & Reddick

The Oakland Athletics announced today medical updates on starting pitchers Jarrod Parker and Sonny Gray and outfielder Josh Reddick.

A recent MRI revealed that Parker, who posted a 12-8 record and 3.97 ERA in 32 starts this past season, has a right forearm strain which will only require rest during the offseason. In his only postseason start, the 24-year-old right-hander allowed three runs on five hits in 5.0 innings in a 6-3 A's win at Detroit in Game 3 of the American League Division Series last Monday.

Gray, who also underwent a MRI, has sustained an ulnar collateral ligament tear of his left thumb, which will require surgery at a date still to be determined. Gray, a rookie who burst on the scene in mid-July and registered a 5-3 record and 2.67 ERA in 12 games (10 starts), will confer with Dr. Thomas Graham at the Cleveland Clinic later this week. The former first-round pick shined in the 2013 ALDS, earning a no-decision with eight scoreless innings in Oakland's 1-0 win in Game 2 on Oct. 5 before losing the decisive Game 5 by a 3-0 score in a pitching duel against Justin Verlander.

Reddick is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his sprained right wrist, which placed him on the disabled list twice during the regular season. He will first consult with Dr. Mark Belsky, a hand specialist based in Newton, Mass. who previously performed surgery on Reddick's left wrist in November of 2011. The Gold Glove right fielder batted .226 with 19 doubles, 12 home runs, 56 RBI and nine stolen bases in 11 attempts in 114 games in 2013. He hit .235 in this year's ALDS, including a solo home run in Game 3 at Detroit last Monday.
