Rangers receive RHP Chaz Roe on waiver claim from Arizona
Former supplemental first round pick made major league debut in 2013
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has received right-handed pitcher Chaz Roe on a waiver claim from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Roe goes on the Rangers’ 40-man roster.
Roe, 27, made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks last season, going 1-0 with a 4.03 ERA (10 ER/22.1 IP) over 21 games and 4 stints (July 1-4, July 28-31, Aug. 12-16, and Aug. 24-end of season). He spent the rest of the year with Mobile (AA) and Reno (AAA), going a combined 0-1 with a 1.11 ERA (3 ER/24.1 IP) in 25 relief appearances. Roe spent the 2012 campaign with the Laredo (TX) Lemurs in the independent American Association, where his manager was former Ranger Pete Incaviglia. He went 3-2 with a 1.47 ERA (9 ER/55.0 IP) in 49 outings for Laredo that year.
Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the supplemental first round (32nd overall) of the 2005 June Draft, Roe has a 42-46 record with a 4.63 ERA (434 ER/843.2 IP) in 184 games/136 starts with affiliated teams in his minor league career. Prior to this season, he last pitched in a major league organization with Triple-A Tacoma in the Seattle system in 2011.
With this move, the Rangers now have 34 players on the club’s 40-man roster, along with 2 pitchers (Matt Harrison and Edwar Cabrera) on the 60-day disabled list.
