Yu Darvish named as finalist for 2013 A.L. Cy Young Award

Arlington, Texas-Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish is one of three finalists for the 2013 American League Cy Young Award, it was announced this evening by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Darvish joins RHP Hisashi Iwakuma of the Seattle Mariners and RHP Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers as the three A.L. finalists. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, November 13.

Darvish was 13-9 with a 2.83 ERA and a major league leading 277 strikeouts in 32 starts in 2013. He also led the majors by averaging 11.32 strikeouts per 9.0 innings and allowed an A.L. low .194 opponents' batting average. The right-hander also posted the fourth lowest ERA in the A.L.

It marks the second straight year that Darvish has been a BBWAA Awards finalist. He joined Oakland's Yoenis Cespedes and the winner, Los Angeles' Mike Trout as finalists for the 2012 A.L. Rookie of the Year Award while finishing third in the voting.
