Pittsburgh Pirates announce complete 2014 broadcast schedule

Several Pirates games to be featured nationally this season

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today the complete television and radio broadcast schedule for the 2014 regular season.

ROOT SPORTS, the exclusive rights holder to Pittsburgh Pirates regional baseball game telecasts, is currently scheduled to produce and distribute 150 regular season Pirates games, all in high definition. ROOT SPORTS will begin its telecast schedule with Opening Day at PNC Park on Monday, March 31 as the Pirates open the season with the Chicago Cubs at 1:05 p.m.

In addition to the game telecasts, ROOT SPORTS will provide fans with additional Pirates coverage all season long including LIVE pre and postgame shows for all telecasts, new episodes of Inside Pirates Baseball and other exclusive Pirates-related programming.

ESPN will broadcast several Pirates games nationally this season, starting with Opening Day. Also on ESPN, Sunday Night Baseball will telecast a game from PNC Park for the first time on Sunday, May 11 as the network will showcase the Pirates vs. the St. Louis Cardinals at 8:05 p.m. Other games tentatively scheduled for ESPN include:

  • Monday, April 21 vs. Cincinnati Reds, 7:05 p.m.*
  • Wednesday, July 9 at St. Louis Cardinals, 8:15 p.m.*

*ESPN games are subject to change and games may be added as the season progresses. The Pirates will announce any changes as they occur.

Pirates' baseball games are scheduled to appear nationally seven times throughout the season on FOX and the parent company's new sports channel Fox Sports 1 (FS1). Four of those games include National League Central Division opponents.

The FOX national telecasts include the following Saturday games:

  • May 24 vs. Washington Nationals, 7:15 p.m. (FOX)
  • May 31 at Los Angeles Dodgers, 7:15 p.m. (FOX)
  • June 21 at Chicago Cubs, 7:15 p.m. (FOX)
  • July 12 at Cincinnati Reds, 7:15 p.m. (FOX)

Fox Sports 1 (FS1), along with ROOT SPORTS, will telecast the following Saturday games:

  • April 26 at St. Louis Cardinals, 4:05 p.m. (FS1)
  • May 17 at New York Yankees, 4:05 p.m. (FS1)
  • August 30 vs. Cincinnati Reds, 4:05 p.m. (FS1)

All 162 regular season games can also be heard on 93-7 THE FAN in Pittsburgh and throughout the
Pittsburgh region on the Pirates Radio Network. The Pirates flagship radio station, 93-7 THE FAN, will air extended local pregame and postgame coverage before and after every broadcast. The station will also air the "Clint Hurdle Show" before every pre-game show and the "Neal Huntington Show" every Sunday prior to the pre-game show.

Greg Brown, Tim Neverett, Steve Blass, Bob Walk and John Wehner will again call all the action in 2014.
