RHP Brandon Maurer recalled from AAA Tacoma to start today's game

OF James Jones optioned to AAA Tacoma post-game Saturday

MIAMI -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves prior to today's game vs. the Miami Marlins:

  •        Brandon Maurer, RHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma
  •        James Jones, OF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 4/19)

Maurer (#37) will make his season debut as the Mariners starting pitcher for today's game vs. the Miami Marlins (10:10 am PT/1:10 pm ET).

Maurer, 23, made four appearances (1 start) with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers in the Pacific Coast League. He went 0-0 with a 2.16 ERA (2 ER, 8.1 IP) and struck out 17 batters (18.4 K/9.0 IP). He made his lone start with the Rainiers in his last appearance April 14 at Albuquerque (2.0 IP, 2 H, R, BB, 3 K).

The native of Costa Mesa, Calif., made his Major League debut with the Mariners last season, going 5-8 with a 6.30 ERA in 22 appearances (14 starts). He was originally selected by Seattle in the 23rd round of the 2008 June Draft.

Jones, 25, appeared went 1-for-1 with an infield single in his Major League debut April 18 at Miami. In 11 games with the Rainiers he is batting .310 (13x47) with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 4 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
