Blue jays celebrate Rogers Centre 25th year anniversary
The TORONTO BLUE JAYS are proud to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the world's first fully retractable stadium. In 1989 the SkyDome made Toronto the envy of many cities around the world. On Friday, June 6 the Blue Jays will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their home, as they start a weekend series and take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 7:07pm.
Like they did back on June 5, 1989, this Friday night the Blue Jays will send fan favourites LHP JIMMY KEY to the mound to throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch to Blue Jays former catcher ERNIE WHITT. Joining them to deliver the game's starting lineup, on behalf of the Blue Jays is former Manager CITO GASTON, who managed the first game at the ballpark.
Also returning this Friday will be ALAN FREW who was the first singer to perform live at the Opening ceremonies for the stadium on June 3, 1989. The lead singer of the band Glass Tiger will perform the American and Canadian National anthems before the game.
During the game, fans will be able to relive some great moments in the history of Rogers Centre. Not only is Rogers Centre home of the Toronto Blue Jays, but it has hosted World renowned events and artists over the course of its 25 year history.
Fans will be encouraged to visit the 200 Level Outfield throughout the game to view a custom designed replica cake of the stadium. The cake is designed and created by For the Love of Cake and will be displayed all game long. Celebrating alongside ACE will be SkyDome's original mascot DOMER.
