Statement from Giants President and CEO Laurence M. Baer regarding USOC Advancing San Francisco as a Potential U.S. Bid City for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

I have been working with a small group of Bay Area civic leaders that includes Anne Cribbs and Steve Strandberg, with the support of Mayor Ed Lee, to explore the opportunity to bid on the Olympic and Paralympic Games for San Francisco and the Bay Area. We are thrilled that the USOC today has advanced San Francisco as a potential bid city for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Given San Francisco and the Bay Area's rich cultural diversity, our innovative tech-driven economy and our proven track record with major world class events, we cannot think of a better location for the 2024 games.   We believe that, working together as a City and region, we can deliver an innovative and compelling bid that will help revolutionize the games and further unify the entire Bay Area community.

We look forward to working with Mayor Lee, other elected leaders and community leaders from the entire Bay Area as we move into the next phase of the bid process.   We have a great deal of work ahead to develop a potential bid, but there is a strong will and desire to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games to the San Francisco Bay Area.
