LHP Blake Taylor acquired from Pittsburgh to complete trade
FLUSHING, N.Y., June 15, 2014 - The New York Mets today announced the club has acquired lefthanded pitcher Blake Taylor from the Pittsburgh Pirates to complete the April 18 trade that sent first baseman Ike Davis to the Pirates and brought righthanded relief pitcher Zack Thornton to the Mets.
Taylor, 19, will be assigned to the rookie-level Gulf Coast Mets.
The lefthander was Pittsburgh's second-round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the 51st overall pick, from Dana Hills High School (CA).
The 6-3, 220-pounder was 0-2 with a 2.57 ERA (six earned runs/21.0 innings) with 13 strikeouts in eight games, seven starts with the Gulf Coast Pirates last year.
Taylor was 2-3 with a 2.57 ERA with 59 strikeouts in 11 games as a senior at Dana Hills and was a 2013 Rawlings third-team All-American selection.
