Michael Saunders activated from 15-day disabled list

Jesus Montero was optioned to AAA Tacoma post-game on Wednesday

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves:

·         Michael Saunders, OF, returned from rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma and activated from 15-day DL (right AC joint inflammation)

·         Jesus Montero, DH/1B, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 6/25)

Saunders (#55) will be in uniform for tonight's series opener vs. the Cleveland Indians at Safeco Field (7:10 pm).

Saunders, 27, was placed on the disabled list on June 11 with right AC joint inflammation. He appeared in five games on rehab assignment with the Tacoma Rainiers, batting .450 (9x20) with 2 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 7 RBI. Before being placed on the DL, Saunders appeared in 52 games with Seattle this season, batting .272 (40x147) with 6 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 25 RBI. He left the game June 6 after two at-bats, and played just one game since (June 10, 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts) before going on the disabled list. In 16 games from May 16 to June 3, Saunders batted .368 (21x57) with 3 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs, 18 RBI and a .391 on-base percentage (1.040 OPS).

Montero, 24, appeared in 5 games with the Mariners batting .286 (4x14) with one home run. He is batting .270 (60x222) with 15 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, 40 RBI and a .800 OPS in 59 games with the Rainiers this season.
