Joey Gallo named Most Valuable Player of 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Target Field

Frisco INF connects for game-winning homer in 6th inning for U.S. Team

Minneapolis, MN - Frisco RoughRiders infielder Joey Gallo was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday afternoon at Target Field.

Gallo connected for the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning off Michael Feliz (Astros) to give the U.S. Team a 3-2 victory over the World Team. Overall, Gallo was 1-for-4 as the DH for the U.S. Team, which won for the fifth consecutive year and leads the all-time series, 10-6.

It marked the first time in the 16-year history of the All-Star Futures Game that a member of the Texas Rangers organization has been selected as the MVP.

Gallo has combined for a .307 (89-290) average with 31 homers, tied for the overall minor league lead, and 73 RBI in 85 games between High-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Frisco in 2014.

Myrtle Beach catcher Jorge Alfaro was 0-for-2 as the starting catcher for the World Team.
