Cubs Recall RHP Dan Straily from Triple-A Iowa, Option OF Junior Lake to Iowa

NEW YORK - The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Dan Straily from Triple-A Iowa and optioned outfielder Junior Lake to Iowa. Straily, who will wear uniform number 19, will make tonight's start against the New York Mets at Citi Field.

Straily, 25, has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts with Iowa, spanning 19.0 innings, from July 31-August 11. He has walked just four and struck out 18 in this stretch that has seen him limit the opponent to a .179 batting average and a .225 on-base percentage while earning three wins.

Since he was acquired with infielder Addison Russell, outfielder Billy McKinney and a player to be named from Oakland, July 5, for pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, Straily has gone 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA (13 ER/39.0 IP) in seven starts with Iowa. Prior to the trade, Straily saw time with Oakland (1-2, 4.93 ERA in seven starts) and Triple-A Sacramento (4-3, 4.71 ERA in 10 starts).

Straily has pitched parts of the last three years with Oakland, going 13-11 with a 4.11 ERA (105 ER/230.0 IP) in 41 starts. He made his big league debut on August 3, 2012 and made seven starts with Oakland that season, going 2-1 with a 3.89 ERA (17 ER/39.1 IP) before spending nearly the entire campaign in the majors in 2013.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Straily was originally selected by Oakland in the 24th round of the 2009 Draft and was named the organization's 2012 co-minor league Pitcher of the Year after combining to go 9-7 with a 2.78 ERA (47 ER/152.0 IP) with an organization-best 190 strikeouts in 25 starts between Sacramento and Midland, where he was named to the Texas League All-Star team.

Lake, 24, is hitting .216 (63-for-291) with 10 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 25 RBI in 98 games for Chicago this season.
