Uncork for a Cause, Cell Phone Recycling Event, Gloves for Kids & Shirts Off Their Backs Highlight Final Homestand

KANSAS CITY, MO - To wrap up the home portion of the regular season, the Kansas City Royals will host the Boston Red Sox (September 11-14), Chicago White Sox (September 15-17) and Detroit Tigers (September 19-21) during a 10-game homestand. Many great events will take place throughout the home stretch, including a special 9/11 Remembrance (September 11), a cell phone recycling event with Jeremy Guthrie (September 12), Uncork for a Cause with Eric Hosmer (September 14), Gloves for Kids (September 18) and Shirts Off Their Backs (September 20). In addition, the new 2015 calendar featuring Royals players interacting with youngsters battling childhood cancer will be for sale throughout the homestand. Proceeds from the calendar, which will be available for $10 in the Majestic Team Store, will benefit Braden's Hope for Childhood Cancer. Please see below for more information. 

Thursday, September 11 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • 9/11 Remembrance - The Royals remember the events of September 11, 2001, by honoring emergency responders and members of the military during a special pregame ceremony. 
  • FSKC Bus Brings Whiteman AFB Guests - The Be Royal Fan Express Bus will travel to Whiteman Air Force Base to bring service members of the 509th Bomb Wing to the game courtesy of FOX Sports Kansas City and the Royals. Prior to the game, these uniformed military members will hold the giant American flag that will be displayed on the field during the National Anthem.
  • Wounded Warriors - Pitcher Wade Davis and his family join Royals Charities to present a $20,000 joint donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dedicated to serving the needs of injured service members, during pregame festivities. In conjunction with the donation, select veterans will watch Royals batting practice on the field.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Friday, September 12 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Cell Phone Recycling Event - The Royals partner with Ericsson and Sprint on a phone recycling event to give fans a simple and convenient way to recycle old cell phones and accessories in exchange for Royals tickets and a Sprint store credit (on eligible phones) of up to $300. Fans who turn over their old phone at the Sprint Store at the Legends Outlets, located at 1813 Village West Parkway in Kansas City, Kan., from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. will receive two free Royals tickets to an upcoming 2014 home game. One set of tickets will be distributed per fan while supplies last. In addition, Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie and Sluggerrr will make a special appearance from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Fans can learn more about the events by visiting www.royals.com/recycle
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Saturday, September 13 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

  • Miracle League Field Opening - In partnership with Variety Children's Charity of Greater Kansas City and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, the Kansas City Royals and Royals Charities will celebrate the opening of a Miracle League Field in Olathe, Kan., at the College Boulevard Activity Center. A dedication ceremony starts the event at 9 a.m. with a baseball clinic and open house to follow.
  • Art Stewart Book Signing at Rally House - Senior Advisor to the General Manager Art Stewart will be signing his new book, The Art of Scouting: Seven Decades of Chasing Hopes and Dreams in Major League Baseball, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Kansas Sampler-Oak Park, located at 9750 Quivira Rd. in Lenexa, Kan. In addition, first baseman Eric Hosmer and third baseman Mike Moustakas will make special appearances during the signing. Please note that fans must purchase a copy of the book to receive one additional autographed item (signed by either Stewart, Hosmer or Moustakas) at the publisher's request. 
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Sunday, September 14 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Alex's Lemonade Stand Presentation - Since the 2012 season, a portion of every freshly-squeezed lemonade sold at Kauffman Stadium has benefited Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to support childhood cancer research. Outfielder Alex Gordon serves as local spokesperson for the organization and will be on hand as ARAMARK and Royals Charities present a check to ALSF for the proceeds of the lemonade sales. Prior to the presentation, at approximately 11 a.m., Gordon will meet several of the families affected by childhood cancer who support ALSF.
  • Royals Alumni Autograph Session - Fans have the opportunity to meet former Royals prior to each Sunday home game in the Royals Hall of Fame. Two Royals Alumni members will sign autographs for fans from 12:15 p.m. to game time.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.
  • Uncork for a Cause with Eric Hosmer - First baseman Eric Hosmer hosts Uncork for a Cause, a special charity event at the Intercontinental on the Country Club Plaza that begins at 7 p.m., to benefit the Greater Kansas City Fire Fighters Local 42 Community Assistance organization. Hosmer, the son of a retired lieutenant fire fighter, and several Royals teammates will mingle with guests at the event, which includes the release party for Hosmer's own wine. Guests will enjoy an enticing menu, drinks and an exclusive auction. Admission also includes a free bottle of Hosmer's wine, a limited release red blend from Sonoma, Calif., which will be available only during the event. Autographs and bottle inscriptions will be available for a small donation, with 100 percent of the autograph proceeds supporting Kansas City area fire fights and their families. Tuesday, September 16 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals Charities and Edelman & Thompson Check Presentation - Prior to the game, Royals Charities will present a ceremonial check along with the presenting sponsor of the 50/50 Raffle, Edelman & Thompson, which represents the more than $350,000 raised through proceeds from the 50/50 Raffle. Royals Charities will distribute grants to organizations in the Kansas City area supporting children, education, youth baseball/softball, and military as a result of the 50/50 Raffle. Wednesday, September 17 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
  • Roberto Clemente Award Presentation - Major League Baseball and Chevy honor the Royals nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award. The award is given annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community service and positive contributions to his team. The club's honoree will receive an award and donation to the charity of his choice from Chevy. Fan voting and a special selection committee will determine the national winner, who will be announced at the World Series.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Thursday, September 18 - Off day

  • Gloves for Kids - The Royals and broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre, with support from 610 Sports, host Gloves for Kids from 5-7 p.m. at Kansas Sampler-Oak Park, located at 9750 Quivira Rd. in Lenexa, Kan. Select Royals will sign autographs for fans who donate at least $25 toward new baseball gloves for underprivileged youth. One group of players will sign from 5-6 p.m. with the other group to follow from 6-7 p.m. Please note that a $25 donation is required for each session. Friday, September 19 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Minor League Award Winners Make Community Appearances - The Royals Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Year award winners will visit children at The University of Kansas Hospital from 9-10 a.m. The group will then tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum from approximately 10:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.
  • Stars of the Classroom - The Royals join the Missouri Lottery to honor outstanding educators through the Missouri Lottery Stars of the Classroom recognition program. Prior to six Royals games throughout the season, the Missouri Lottery and the Royals celebrate the achievements of top teachers from six school districts in the metro area.
  • Big Game James Section - Pitcher James Shields, together with the Royals and KCP&L, will host foster care children and their families in the Big Game James Section. Each child from Drumm Farm Center for Children will receive complimentary tickets in section 206, a "Big Game James" t-shirt and a free meal courtesy of ARAMARK and Papa John's Pizza. The special guests will also participate in a meet-and-greet with Shields prior to the game.

Saturday, September 20 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 12:05 p.m.

  • Shirts Off Their Backs - In conjunction with Fan Appreciation Day, Royals Charities will host its annual Shirts Off Their Backs fundraiser benefiting Royals Charities and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City. Throughout the game, volunteers will sell $1 instant-win scratch tickets with winners receiving an autographed jersey right off the back of their favorite Royals player or coach on the field following the game. Fans also have an opportunity to bid on one of the spots and secure their place on the field through September 17 by visiting www.royals.com/shirtsoffthebacks.

Sunday, September 21 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Royals Alumni Autograph Session - Fans have the opportunity to meet former Royals prior to each Sunday home game in the Royals Hall of Fame. Two Royals Alumni members will sign autographs for fans from 12:15 p.m. to game time.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.
