"Inside the Marlins: Against the Odds - Brett Butler" goes all access with Miami's third base coach

On Sunday, Sept. 21st at 4:30 p.m., FOX Sports Florida, the statewide television home of the Miami Marlins, will debut a new episode of "Inside the Marlins" upon conclusion of the Marlins vs. Washington Nationals game. Titled "Against The Odds," this episode provides an all-access look at the baseball career and life of Marlins third base coach Brett Butler.

Hosted by Allison Williams and produced by Frank Forte, "Inside the Marlins: Against The Odds" starts with a look at Butler's humble beginnings in Illinois, where he was mostly a backup player in high school. Butler's work ethic at a young age led him to walk on at Arizona State University, before moving on and playing at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Butler would go on to become a two-time All-American at Southeastern Oklahoma State, before being drafted in the 23rd round of the 1979 draft by the Atlanta Braves.

As a member of the Braves, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, Butler had over 2,300 hits, 1,300 runs and 558 stolen bases, and was one of the premier leadoff hitters of his era throughout his 17 seasons in the big leagues. A master in the art of bunting, Butler was credited with 245 bunt hits in his career, most all-time in Major League Baseball, since statistical services began tracking such hits. Butler is also a cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsils in 1996 while playing for the Dodgers. Four months after surgery, he returned to the playing field at Dodger Stadium. Brett's wife of 33 years, Eveline, joins Allison and Brett to discuss how they dealt with Butler's illness, as a family.
