A's claim RHP Jorge De Leon off waivers from Houston; Release DH Adam Dunn

The Oakland A's have claimed right-handed pitcher Jorge De Leon off waivers from the Houston Astros, the team announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's have released designated hitter Adam Dunn.

De Leon was 4-5 with five saves and a 3.01 ERA in 46 relief appearances between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Oklahoma City. De Leon, 27, began the season with Corpus Christi where he posted a 1-2 record, two saves and a 3.92 ERA in 15 games. He then went 3-3 with three saves and a 2.62 ERA in 31 games with Oklahoma City. He recorded 61 strikeouts in 68.2 innings overall, an average of 8.0 strikeouts per nine innings, and held opponents to a .250 batting average. De Leon was selected by Houston when rosters expanded in September and was 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA in eight relief appearances. 

Dunn was acquired from the White Sox Aug. 31 and batted .212 with two home runs and 10 RBI in 25 games with Oakland in September. He hit .220 with 20 home runs and 54 RBI in 106 games with Chicago and had a .219 batting average, 22 home runs and 64 RBI in 131 games overall. Dunn has a .237 career average with 462 home runs and 1,168 RBI in 2,001 games. The home runs are tied with Jose Canseco for 35th in Major League history.
