2014 Phillies #1 Draft Pick Aaron Nola Assigned To The Clearwater Threshers

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Philadelphia Phillies today assigned their 2014 #1 draft pick, Aaron Nola, to the Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers in the Florida State League. The 21-year-old right-handed pitcher from Louisiana State University was selected seventh overall in the June draft after his junior season.

Nola's record this year at LSU was 11-1 in 16 starts with a 1.47 ERA, 134 strikeouts and 27 walks in 116 1/3 innings. The 6'1", 195 lb. starter struck out 345 batters in three years of college ball. His career record as a Tiger was 30-6 with a 2.09 ERA.

Nola was named SEC Pitcher of the Year twice, the only player with multiple honors. He was one of three finalists for the Golden Spikes Award, awarded each year to the top player in college baseball.

The first professional and FSL appearance for Nola is slated for tonight, June 23, in Lakeland against the Flying Tigers. Nola is tentatively scheduled to make his Bright House Field debut on Saturday, June 28, in a 6:30 p.m. game against the Brevard County Manatees.
