Adduci to DL; Sardinas called up

ARLINGTON -- Jim Adduci got his first start of the season Friday night, and unfortunately for him, his last start for about a month. The Rangers' outfielder fractured his left little finger Friday and was sent to the 15-day disabled list Saturday.
 
Adduci, a left-handed hitter, went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in the Rangers' 12-0 victory over the White Sox. Two of those hits came after he injured his finger sliding into second base.
 
"When I tagged up at first and went to second, I just went in hard," Adduci said. "I didn't think it was that serious. I just thought it was a regular jammed finger … when I woke up this morning it was swollen pretty bad."
 
For the season, Adduci is hitting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles -- almost all in pinch-hit or late-inning sub situations. The Rangers expect him to miss about four weeks.
 
The Rangers called up 20-year-old infielder Luis Sardinas from Double-A Frisco to take Adduci's place on the roster. Sardinas was hitting .226 (12-for-53) in 13 games with the RoughRiders and said he was surprised to get the promotion.
 
"It's a big thing for me and my family," Sardinas said.
 
Sardinas is unlikely to be with the club long, as Adrian Beltre will be eligible to come off the disabled list in less than a week, but manager Ron Washington said he'll try to use Sardinas when the situation presents itself.
 
"He's a switch-hitter [who] can run," Washington said. "I hope I get an opportunity to get him out there."
