After setback, Parra's return date in question
Lefty reliever placed on DL at end of April with strained neck
CINCINNATI - When Reds lefty reliever Manny Parra went on the disabled list April 29 because of a strained neck, it wasn't expected to be an extended absence. The move was retroactive five days, and Parra was eligible to return by May 9.
As of Sunday, Parra was still on the DL without a target date to return, in part because of a setback.
"I'm doing fine," Parra said. "I had a slight setback, but I'm trying to make progress. I'm good."
"He had a little bit of elbow tenderness that has been completely checked out. I don't want to say it's a non-issue ... but it's been checked out," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It's part of the aches and pains of throwing the baseball. He's getting very close to being back pitching again."
Parra last pitched for the Reds on April 23 at Milwaukee. He threw off of a mound in a side session a couple of days ago.
"So he'll probably require at least a couple of outings on a rehab [assignment]," Price said."
