Rios joins team at Wrigley, will be activated Saturday

CHICAGO -- Royals outfielder Alex Rios ended his rehab stint with Triple-A Omaha and rejoined the team on Friday, but he was not activated.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Rios would be activated for Saturday's game.

"He's played four straight games, and he flew in today," Yost said. "We figured we'd give him a day to take batting practice and get used to the field."

Rios, who was recovering from a broken left hand, was 3-for-17 in four games for Omaha, with a homer and a double.

"It went well," Rios said. "I think the purpose was to see if I could hit with the hand, and I could.

"On some occasions, there is going to be some discomfort. I'm just going to have to deal with it. Overall, though, I was able to swing at 100 percent. We achieved our goal."

Rios did have a scary moment Thursday night when he made a catch and crashed into the wall.

"I tried to stop myself with my bad hand," he said. "It got me good, but it didn't get any worse."
