Bailey's surgery didn't include rotator cuff
BOSTON -- Andrew Bailey's surgery on Wednesday consisted mainly of repairing the reliever's labrum and capsule.
"If there were any needs as far as the rotator cuff, that was minimal," said manager John Farrell. "As far as recovery time, I don't have a projected time frame on that. It wouldn't be probably out of the realm of up to 12 months."
The best-case scenario would seem to have Bailey returning at around the All-Star break next season.
The Red Sox control Bailey's rights for one more season but are all but certain to non-tender him. That would make him a free agent, but he could return to Boston at a discounted rate.
