Angels and Catcher Chris Iannetta Agree on a Three-Year Contract

The Angels Friday announced the club has agreed to terms on a three-year contract through 2015 with catcher Chris Iannetta. Today’s announcement was made by General Manager Jerry Dipoto.

Iannetta, 29, spent his first season with the Angels in 2012 after being acquired from the Rockies in exchange for RHP Tyler Chatwood during 2011 off-season. He batted .240 (53/221) with nine home runs and 26 RBI in 79 games. He missed 67 contests on the disabled list with a fractured right wrist. He suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch May 2nd vs. Minnesota. Ironically, he finished the game which turned out to be Jered Weaver’s first career no-hitter.

The Providence, RI native was drafted by Colorado in the fourth round of the 2004 draft out of the University of North Carolina. In seven MLB seasons (537 games), he has batted .236 (389/1650) with 78 doubles, 72 home runs, 262 RBI and a .354 on-base percentage.
