Street day-to-day after tweaking groin

DENVER -- Angels closer Huston Street tweaked his right groin on the final pitch of the Angels' 3-2 win at Coors Field on Wednesday night, right before locking down the 299th save of his career.

"My gut tells me I didn't get it too bad," said Street, who has dealt with his fair share of groin injuries in the past.

He doesn't think he'll have to go on the disabled list.

"That's my gut, slash hope, slash competitiveness," Street said. "The night of it, it's really tough to tell. Tomorrow, we'll have a much better answer to the question."

Worst case, Street said, he'll be unavailable for the upcoming four-game series in Seattle, then get an additional four days off with the All-Star break. If that's the case, the Angels will probably use Trevor Gott as their setup man and Joe Smith as their closer.

Street said he felt his groin tighten up the pitch before, then nearly collapsed to the ground after getting Ben Paulsen to ground out to end the game.

"I didn't fall to my knee out of pain," said Street, with a 2.27 ERA and 24 saves this season. "I just didn't want to push off anymore; I just wanted to get off it."

The setback -- however serious it ends up being -- comes at a time when the Angels are rolling, having won five in a row and nine of their last 10 to move within 1 1/2 games of the first-place Astros in the American League West.

"You're frustrated -- furious is the answer anytime you feel like you're letting your teammates down when you can't be out there," Street said. "Your initial reaction when you know something is not perfect is you are frustrated with the happenstance. But then you turn the page and see, 'How can I get back as fast as I can?' Hopefully it's in the Seattle series. If it's not then, then I think it should be pretty close after the All-Star break."
