Angels game against Twins postponed
Halos to play day-night doubleheader at Target Field on Saturday
MINNEAPOLIS -- Friday's Angels game was postponed due to steady rain in Minneapolis, and the Angels will play their second doubleheader of the season on Saturday.
Andrew Heaney, who was scheduled to start on Friday, will start the first game against Kyle Gibson, which will begin at 10:10 a.m. PT. Garrett Richards will make his regularly-scheduled start in the second game of the split doubleheader -- a 4:10 p.m. PT start -- facing off against Mike Pelfrey, who was supposed to start on Friday.
"Split doubleheaders are never a favorite for anybody, but we'll be ready to go at noon tomorrow," manager Mike Scioscia said.
Because of the rainout, the Angels will need a starter on Wednesday, which they have yet to announce. Matt Shoemaker, who threw a bullpen on Friday, will pitch Sunday's series finale. Shoemaker has missed two starts with right forearm tenderness, but said he felt good after his bullpen.
Nick Tropeano, who made two starts in Shoemaker's absence, could be an option for Wednesday's start. Tropeano went 1-0 in those starts, giving up five runs in 9 1/3 innings.
The Angels' bullpen was taxed in the team's victory on Thursday night when starter Hector Santiago recorded just two outs before being pulled. However, expanded rosters should help ease some of the burden of the doubleheader.
Fans who had tickets to Friday's game at Target Field can use those tickets for Saturday's first game or have them exchanged for another game later in the season.
