Cron has career night as offense piles on

ARLINGTON -- Maybe Friday night wasn't a fluke.

A day after scoring eight runs -- including six in one inning -- in a win against the Rangers, the Angels gave an offensive encore even better than the first performance on the way to an 13-0 win over Texas on Saturday at Globe Life Park.

This time, the biggest hero of the night was designated hitter C.J. Cron, who had a career-high six RBIs.

"Growing up, I was always in the middle of the order," Cron said. "I kind of pride myself in driving runners in, and it's fun to drive them in. It's fun to win 13-0."

Once again, the big night started in the second inning.

The Angels began the frame with four consecutive base hits, and Cron's single brought home two runs. Kole Calhoun added a sacrifice fly, and though the Angels stranded the bases loaded, that didn't stop the momentum.

The Angels added one run in both the third and fourth innings before turning the game into a blowout with a six-run sixth. Cron hit a three-run blast in the inning as part of his 3-for-4 night.

Cron is hitting only .216 for the season and has had two stints in Triple-A this year. He said time in the Minors allowed him to get more consistent at-bats and helped him find his swing. Saturday, he proved it.

"When you have a game like that, it has to help your confidence," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Six RBIs, hit well with runners in scoring position, hit a home run. [Cron is] a good offensive player, and he really has not gotten his feet on the ground for us this year, so maybe a game like this will give him a little bit of confidence."

Calhoun also continued to clobber Rangers pitching, hitting his eighth homer of the year and finishing 2-for-4.

Chris Iannetta, Albert Pujols, Johnny Giavotella and Daniel Robertson also had multi-hit games as the Angels recorded a season-high 17 knocks on the way to winning for the sixth time in seven games.

"It starts with getting on base," Scioscia said. "Seven walks also. We created a lot of good situations, and when guys got in scoring positon, we were 8-for-16 with guys in scoring position, so we were hitting the ball hard. Then obviously the sac fly and driving the ball out of the park added up to a great offensive night."
