Infielder Navarro optioned to Triple-A

SEATTLE -- The Angels optioned infielder Efren Navarro to Triple-A Salt Lake City following Thursday night's 7-2 loss to the Mariners, with a corresponding roster move to be announced Friday.

Navarro has appeared in 37 games for the Angels this season, hitting .260 (20-for-77) with four doubles and five RBIs. He has made 19 starts this year, but has been used as a late-inning substitution in five of his six games in July.

The 29-year-old infielder entered the Angels' loss at Safeco Field when he pinch-hit for third baseman Taylor Featherston with two outs and the bases loaded in the top of the seventh. Navarro grounded out to third baseman Kyle Seager to end the inning.

When asked whether a pitcher would be brought up to add another arm to a bullpen that is likely without closer Huston Street for the final three games of the first half, Angels manager Mike Scioscia did not give any indication of the club's plan.
